Posting Poems and Everythings « Result #2 on Nov 25, 2009, 2:47am »
Gday all ...
firstly let me say that i am very impressed at the talent that can be found in our members list...some poems here have wonderful knack of making want more more and others affect my emotions in such a way ...the way that good poetry should do and i must say keep up the good work.....
A few things that just might make this place really rock and believe me we should try to do this to ensure our works read and critiqued regularly ....
First always make it a rule to at least read one of your fellow poets poems when you post ...not cut and run and only come back to your thread ...
And yes some poems are dogs ...i have puppy farm of them in a book i have written ...but please if you think a poem is not to your liking do not negativly can them ...give a constructive critique to assist them to improve ..because a good poet will listen to his/her peers and savor both critiue or praise and use it to improve their work ....
Remember we are a community a community that Belinda has worked hard to set up and turn in to a wonderful friendly family place to be and as with all communities participation is the best way to make that community an active and enjoyable place to be ...after all it only takes a few minutes and thats all to pots and then read and comment on anothers work......
Guyz I have made some bewt friends here and have found it to be very active and then sometimes get a bit quiet , but me i like tah party so lets party and PARTICIPATE and POST em ...
also the blogs whose gonna start writing a personal blog/diary comment on all things you like dislike even a do a piece on Britney Spears or Miley Cirus if that yah thing
what bout the music section more songs/lyrics references ta music please
I wanna hear more jokes as i love ta laugh maybe we can have the most original joke of the week today i am o weel probably not...
So come everyone lets Rock n Roll and I will bring the barbeque snags

Re: Using Linux « Result #4 on Nov 6, 2009, 8:01am »
I have the new Windows 7, and I shall say it is better than any Windows out there (95, 98, XP, Vista). I do not have Linux on my personal computers, but have played around with it and seen its features. I can see where you can really like it and less the headaches. If you ever go back to Windows, I recommend Windows 7. Ever since I switched, I haven't had any problems with programs not responding, sudden shutdowns, etc. I think they finally listened to people with this newer version. IMAGINE THAT--LISTENING TO YOUR BUYERS!!! LOL

Using Linux « Result #5 on Nov 6, 2009, 6:40am »
GDay all being the rebel I am I have decided to run Linux (Ubuntu)operating system and ditching windows software although it is causing a few compatibilty issues I must admit it runs considerably better and has a GI the same as windows so it was easy to change ..I also can run all my office word software on on a program called OpenOffice which is free to down load and use ...a few hiccups are happening but i am sure we will overcome them the beauty of Linux is it is opensource and takes Billies monopoly away which I think is gr8...
Is anybodi here using Linux what are your thoughts

LOVE IT!!!! I am working full time now, plus my daughter (graegrae33--her name on here) is playing volleyball, so my time is very limited. I do try to log on everyday to see what is going on. You will find out that there are slow times and then there are times it is non-stop. Summer/Fall seem to be the slowest of times, where Winter seem to be the best months to sit on a computer and just type away!

Thank you for the sweet sentiment towards Mark's birthday Belinda!! He is very introverted and I am trying to boost his confidence level and get him to write a little on this board. It has taken me 2 years...But I have really gotten him out of his shell...although, some things he is still very shy about... Hopefully in the future, I can get him comfortable enough to show his talent! -Love always -Gina -

I would just like to say that thanks to this site and all of your encouragement and feedback, I have been able to find my own style of writing and now looking back upon some of my older work, I can see how I have grown and how my writes have gone from simple peices trying to get each line to rhyme with the one previous, to much more personal style. I hate also recently discpovered that a way of releasing my uncontrolled emotions is through writing instead of doing it in a harmful way.

The Twenty First Century Artist Aug 21st, 2009 | By W.B. Burkholder | Category: Featured Articles | Edit | 30 views Who is the Artist and who is the Man, What differences lay therein?
Who is it that struggles more or less, is it a monopoly one over the other?
It is in the minds of all men to seek serenity and peace, to stand and hope for this is common to all.
Yes, we all have this in common, but the Artist has the tools with which to utter man’s dissent. This dissent to the injustices and violence’s waged upon the world and upon ourselves.
However, if the Artist believes that he is inculpable of these same injustices; his beliefs are that of indolence. For the Artist is no different in terms of the flesh and bone we speak of; this cage is inherent to all.
Struggle is also inherent. Who is it that has not done so? In this day and age as in most ages past, we have witnessed the violent upheaval of country against country, neighbor against neighbor. Americans and the world have watched towers and airplanes fall from the sky. And while this is agreeably horrific, we enlist and unleash a nationally based reprisal against our fellow human beings.
Yes, justice must be served, but it must be served by calm and learned hands. Some nine years later we find ourselves wallowed deep in the decay of war. And to what end has it been justified. The soldier will say that it is to bestow honor upon his fallen comrades and that is why the fight must go on. The politician will say it is to ensure stability in the affected region. The businessman will say it is to regain stability in the markets.
But the Man, the Woman and child only ask when will this end? The laid off workers, the new lower class of America, the grieving Mothers and Fathers, the limbless young men and woman. What is it that they see? The world’s future lies wounded upon an uncaring street.
And yet, what is it that an artist can do that a man cannot? The artist is a part of the melee, part of this violent soup. He may sit outside the bowl separate from the rest, but he cannot deny his complicity with this.
We must come to terms with our humanity as artists. For the artist to deny this would surely be the greatest lie. It is the twenty first century and we are the Writer’s, the artists of this age. What is it that we are prepared to tell the future? What is it that will be said of us and our work?
Let us not lie to them, let us not squander our opportunity to convey our perceived truths in the most laudable of lights. However we must all confess that we are first and foremost,
Man, simple men and women who struggle, who live, and die, who at times celebrate injustices, who embrace blind thought and bias’s, who breathe and bleed just as they, just as we… We are the heartbeat and pulse of these times. But let us not hold that above our brothers and sisters, Let our combined works embrace the common man. For if not for him, Art is meaningless.

This was a Tremendous Article and ALL who call themselves Artists, should read this. Even the gifted need to be reminded, of their duty, their mission, and yes, even their own passions!
Carlton Lloyd Smith August 21st, 2009 8:14 am edit This is a very interesting piece, but I feel I must offer a somewhat dissenting opinion on this. Of course, this opinion is offered with the utmost respect for you and your work, but offer it I must. I honestly feel that as an artist, I am compelled to create only what I am moved to create. What my muse calls me to create, if you will.
In his wonderful essay Self-Reliance Emerson wrote,
There is a time in every man’s education when he arrives at the conviction that envy is ignorance; that imitation is suicide; that he must take himself for better, for worse, as his portion; that though the wide universe is full of good, no kernel of nourishing corn can come to him but through his toil bestowed on that plot of ground which is given to him to till.
If my muse does not call me to speak out against the calamity of war, or struggles of poverty, who am I to force it? And who is to say that my neglect is a misuse of my talent?
I honestly find your essay to be compelling and obviously heartfelt. And if your muse calls you to stand for those things through your art then you must. For you to disregard it would be dishonest and reprehensible. I note Dalton Trumbo’s novel Johnny Got His Gun and Wilfred Owens’ wonderful poem Dulce et Decorum Est to be just those types of art, and these works have been marking posts of my own life, without them I would not be the man I am today. I do however, have a distaste for compelling the artist to write or create that to which he is not called. And when he acquiesces to this pressure, whether for money or expediency, I find his action reprehensible.
What I must do is all that concerns me, not what the people think. This rule, equally arduous in actual and in intellectual life, may serve for the whole distinction between greatness and meanness. It is the harder, because you will always find those who think they know what is your duty better than you know it. It is easy in the world to live after the world’s opinion; it is easy in solitude to live after our own; but the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude.
Ralph Waldo Emerson – Self-Reliance

Lifes Little Lessons « Result #39 on Jul 31, 2009, 4:03am »
just received this from a friend on the email though I'd share it with cha
Written By: Regina Brett, of The Plain Dealer, Cleveland, Ohio "To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most-requested column I've ever written." Here is the column once more: 1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good. 2. When in doubt, just take the next small step. 3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. 4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch. 5. Pay off your credit cards every month. 6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree. 7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone. 8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it. 9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck. 10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile. 11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present. 12. It's OK to let your children see you cry. 13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about. 14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it. 15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God doesn't blink. 16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind. 17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful. 18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger. 19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else. 20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer. 21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, and wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special. 22. Over prepare, and then go with the flow. 23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple. 24. The most important sex organ is the brain. 25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you. 26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?' 27. Always choose life. 28. Forgive everyone everything. 29. What other people think of you is none of your business. 30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time. 31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change. 32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does. 33. Believe in miracles.
34. (This on'e mine)You are a child of the Universe, and are important in that great scheme 35. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now. 36. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young. 37. Your children get only one childhood. 38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved. 39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere. 40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back. 41. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need. 42. The best is yet to come. 43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up. 44. Yield. 45. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift."
and number 46 and 47: The only thing that is constant in Life, is change.
Give over on control: The Sun shines and the Wind blows all without your interference.
