Help needed to find a hero
budding writers and readers, i need your help; I am writing a romance novel based in the regancy period, mainly set in London and some sence in the contry side!
My problem is.... I have my Heroine, strong will minded, proud, curvaceous black beauty Emma, who i love, i have written many scence with her, but i can not find my hero. Tragic i know, NOW what do you love about a romance hero, does he have to be strong? Handsom? or do looks not matter? I know he is not a man of great power just a Lord... Please tell me what you love about a hero in a story? Help my writers block! my man has gone missing!

Personally, when I think of a 'hero', I think of someone who is courageous, brave, strong-willed...etc. But when I think of a romance novel hero, I don't think the physical description is absolutely crucial, but important. I would think the hero would be good looking, lol. But obviously how you want him to look is up to you!

I think of a hero as someone who helps someone. I really don't care what he looks like. I want to see the action behind the reason they are a hero. What has made him so special to her?? What will he come back to do for her that makes him a true hero in her eyes. Does he save her life in a supernatural way....a health way...a loving way...rescue way? I hope that helps. Belinda

As a hero people usually picture a super strong awesome, touching, caring, uber handsome, carismatic etc etc man. But i agree with belinda, its the act that makes up a hero. Another thing is that you want to attract a reader. That is achieved with difference if you know what i mean. Youll totally surprize a reader if the hero would be, dunno, a poor farmer or anything matching with that(depending on story time). Then trully the act can show the hero in him. It can also teach people that looks and money dont matter. That gold diggers are lame etc. Real love is about feelings, real courage is all about sacrifice etc. A wonderful example is the story the beauty and the beast... Hope i helped. Good luck on the novel. I hope we get to read it when its finished.

Honestly, the beauty of writing is that you can give a basic description of someone's looks and the reader will imagine it how they want to. Even in Romance, I tend to make up what they look like in my mind. A hero should be brave, yes. In my mind, a hero is passionate and willing to put his life on the line for someone he loves. A hero should also be smart and clever, to figure his way out of tight areas. Not necessarily strong, but good with using resources around him. Mainly, don't make him too cliche. Don't make him every good attribute there is and then no flaws. A hero always has his tragic flaw. Its what makes the women love him

A hero ...well ... so many different interpretations of the Hero in writing many have been done to death ..so think outside the square ..try to find a person who great strength yet a soft gentleness deep inside hiding that only the heroine can bring out yet don't make it cleche..give him a weakness that adds to the plot of the story ...make his looks rugged not hansom ...for beauty should be inside and fortitude on the outside ...the rest is up to you to build the character into your story ...go for it and let me know how you go

Okay, how about the following jacket blurb? An idea: don't give the hero a name. Let's see how it develops
